The Good Neighbor program exists to empower the church to walk alongside refugees and immigrants with the love of Christ. Good Neighbors befriend refugees and asylum seekers by providing practical support and life skills to those who have been forced to flee their homelands. Our team will walk alongside a family for one year. Some of our responsibilities will be: * Welcome newly-arriving refugee family through Arrive Ministries’ Reception and Placement program. * Be one of the first faces to greet this family upon their arrival at the airport. * In partnership with the family’s case manager wewill have the opportunity to assist with appointments and help the family learn local systems, all while extending friendship to our newest neighbors. *Come alongside a refugee or immigrant family already living in Minnesota. * Provide support to families seeking asylum.
This group is for those who wish to bless others by making a meal. When a family is facing a challenging situation (whether a new baby, health diagnosis, emergency, etc.) and could use some support, my desire is to help provide some meals. When a need arises, I will create a meal train schedule & send it out to all members. You do not need to participate for every need - you can choose what works for you! My goal is to grow the group to easily provide for any need without relying too heavily on any member. This is not a typical small group & will not be meeting together.
Saturday at 6:00 PM
This group was initiated and will be lead by my 5 year old son (Misha). He shared with me a message he heard from Jesus and wanted to obey Jesus' command. "Mommy, Jesus says we need to pick up trash and save the animals. We need to tell people to do this." He has been very persistent for months that he needed to do what Jesus told him. When he learned that our church has groups, he asked to lead one to pick up trash. We have adopted Apple Ponds Park in Apple Valley and will be maintaining the park once a month. This may include picking up trash, planting flowers, and/or pulling weeds from a planter or around a sign. Misha encourages other kids to join him and to play with him after clean up. Volunteers of all ages are welcomed. We will meet once per month. The time of day may fluctuate depending on season.
Serving opportunities will be shared with this group and participants can participate as it works with their schedule and/or interest. No set meeting times or commitments. Emails will be sent out as opportunities become available. Let's radically serve and love our community so that more people will come to know Jesus.
As a member of this group, you will be part of The Best Christmas Ever, a Christian nonprofit organization that helps families who experience hardships due to no fault of their own. https://www.bcemovement.org/ Do you want to make a HUGE impact on your community? God has given us each many gifts and strengths that we can use to make the world such a beautiful place. We can come together and create such an impactful group of giving and generosity! I, personally, see what heaven and God has given to me and I want nothing more than to give it all back to Him. I would love to create a group of individuals within River Valley Church that all have hearts to give back to those who are in need of SO much hope. Join me and let's make a difference!
Friday at 6:30 PM
Are you ready to take action to love our city well? Every Friday River Valley Church partners with the ICCM Life Center. Teams hit the streets of Minneapolis to love our neighbors and build relationships! By joining this small group, you will be able to connect with others from your campus that are serving in this capacity. You can serve as often as it works for your schedule (details on how to sign up for Fridays will be shared from your small group leader - Dave & Jeanne Ritzman. Schedule: 6:30-7pm - at the Life Center for a time of prayer and worship. 7pm - load up the Life Center buses with food, drink, clothing, and other essentials. We will drive to various parts of the city focused on encampments, bus stops, and shelters. Throughout the night we will meet people, build relationships, and share the love of Jesus while providing food, clothing, prayer, and so much more. 9pm - debrief, testimonies and encouragment.
Tuesday at 6:30 PM
We gather together to work on projects, share a devotional, fellowship, pray and bless our community. You can bring a project of your own or work on one we've already started. Group projects are donated to the community. All ages are welcome and no experience necessary. Current projects include tie blankets, loom hats, knitted & crocheted scarves, hats and blankets.
